Description

CaSToRC, the National HPC Competence Center is calling for applications for its upcoming HPC Hackathon, due to take place between Monday 17 - Friday 21 May 2021.

There will be two separate themes to this hackathon.

Hackathon Projects

This will be an all week event - between Monday 17 - Friday 21 May 2021.

Applicants who have an established computational project

Applicants must have an established computational project which they are working on to scale up towards using more resources. In this call, they should describe in the application form, the problems they are facing in their project. These may be of computational, technical or algorithmic nature and which prevent or hamper progress in the scaling up of their project.

During this week-long Hackathon event, a member of the CaSToRC High Level Support Team (HLST) will be assigned to selected projects, and work hands-on with group members to help resolve their problems.

It is thus important that applicants provide a detailed description of their projects and the issues they face, so the most appropriate HLST member can be assigned to their project (if selected). In addition, it is important that applicants commit that they be able to fully attend the Hackathon and come well prepared with the issues they are facing with their project so the HLST member assigned to them can best help them.

Applicants who do not have an established computational project

If someone wants to participate in the Hackathon, but does not have an established computational project which they are currently working on, the company RetailZoom will provide a dataset to use in order to predict the customers churn for a retail store in Cyprus.

This hackathon challenge is a continuation of the challenge that took place during the Hackathon session of the Cyprus HPC Industry Week, in the beginning of March 2021.

There will be a webinar where we will discuss the problem space, and the teams that took part in the previous RetailZoom Hackathon challenge will present their results. The date of the webinar will be announced soon.

If you are interested in participating in this part of the Hackathon, please specify this in the registration form.

General HPC Related Questions, Coding and Exercises

This will be a three day event, between Monday 17 - Wednesday 19 May 2021.

People will be able to join and participate in the following activities:

  • Ask general HPC related questions
HLST members and HPC Operations staff will be available to provide answers and advice to their requests.
  • Take part in various exercises that will be made available and set by HLST members
HLST members will be available to help participants towards their solutions.
  • HPC DYI Coding
At all times, participants can code on their own work, and ask HLST members for support on small issues
